Case Study: Application Service Provider

The majority of the workload of the application was carried on Sun UltraSparc servers running the Solaris operating system. Application and web servers were typically hosted on dual processor servers and heavy duty database servers were on eight processor SMP servers. Client also had applications hosted on wintel servers while specific applications were hosted on old Sequent NUMA servers. Client had deployed a Hitachi SAN for high speed storage device and was bringing online, an EMC Centera as a slower and cost effective solution for archiving historical data. Client as a part of the network infrastructure had Cisco PIX firewalls protecting the server farm from the Internet, load balancers to distribute load on the application and web servers. Intrusion detection systems are also deployed part of the security infrastructure. A checkpoint VPN device is deployed for remote access. The email platform in use for Corporate email requirements was Sendmail with content filtering and virus protection. Client also deployed a VOIP solution across all offices.
